Four high school best friends are cruising the mall one day when they find an unusual kiosk. Bailey buys a packet of temporary tattoos which she shares with her friends. The tattoos lead the way to an action-packed weekend filled with characters from mythology and a quest to save the world.Bailey is the average, klutzy one but she has a blood tie to the Fates and her gift is fire. She also has visions and hears voices which provide hints about what their mission is. Her friend Annabelle's tattoo lets her read minds and influence others. Fashion maven Delia is given the gift of transformation with her tattoo and athletic, tomboy Zo gets the gift of prophetic visions with hers. The girls have one weekend to find a way to stop one of the Fates from destroying the seal that keeps the world in balance. I liked the way the girls' different personalities mesh in this story. Delia's use of her power provides comic relief for the heavier elements of the story. The story is told from Bailey's point of view. She has a great voice and is interested in all the things important to high school girls.
My Thoughts: This book was a fun quick read. We start off by getting to know all the girls. I will admit I had a hard time following at first. Mainly because the girls seemed so much alike I had trouble keeping them straight. We don't get too much detail surrounding each girl so I had to remember who was who. Once the story unfolded though, it came together. The girls became individuals. They go and end up buying tattoos that are supposed to be "temporary" right before a big dance they are looking forward too. There is a guy involved of course but he wasn't in the story as much as I would have liked. Each girl gets a special gift from the tattoos. Without giving much more away, we learn the reason behind it and why they are so "special." I can't expand too much more without giving away the whole plot of the book. This story reminded me a lot of Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. The dialogue. I think it would appeal more to teenage girls than older women. I like the whole premise of it, if only I could be special by putting on a temporary tattoo!!! Its a fun quick read. This is a new to me author, but I just found out she has another book coming out next year called, Raised By Wolves. Sounds interesting!Overall: Quick read, the story unfolds fast and try to keep the girls straight from the beginning! And which power they possess.Cover: The cover is eye catching but I think the cover of Fate is more appealing. Not a whole lot going on in this one, just a girl's back and where her tattoo is. ...Are quite rare. What our author does here is weave a woman's view into that complicated adolescent mind and bring out the joy of being powerful, beautiful in the most common way possible--being oneself, and generally makes being a human being somehow as romantic as Huck Finn floating down the river or a space adventure out of this world.I didn't think I'd enjoy this book as much as I did...which means you can infer by the 5 stars the truth...
I wasn't sure about this book at first. Some young adult books come with very little cross over appeal. It was a little cliché in the beginning. But, then the fun started. I've always enjoyed mysteries and thrillers, and this story had that and more. The characters were upbeat. I did think that the climax happened rather abruptly. I wanted a little bit more conflict there. It ended well though and had an interesting spin.
This book was good, but kind of a let-down. I think the description built the book up a little too much and focused on a part of the book that wasn't really there. Besides that, it was good. I think anyone who likes teen adventure should read this book. Enjoy!
tattoo was a great book and i loved reading this book it keep you on your toes and it was mythical and funny and i couldnt put it down. jennifer lynn barnes did a great job writingthis book. hope you like it.
Tattoo is about a girl named Bailey and her three friends. One day while at the mall, a lady stops them at a kiosk and gives each of them a different accessory. When it's Bailey's turn, the lady tells her that she can actually pick which accessory she wants. Bailey ends up accidentally knocking over a drawer, and decides on the choice of temporary tattoos. While the girls go dress shopping, they each decide to put their tattoos on. Each girl decides on a different place. Even though they don't know how to put the tattoo on since they don't have water, it just sticks to them without it. Bailey ends up blacking out and seeing weird things when each of the girls put their tattoo on. Nobody else experiences the same thing, which kind of freaks her out. Immediately after the tattoos are placed upon their skin, each develops special powers. Zo can see the future, Annabelle can read minds, Delia can transmogrify any object, and Bailey can set fire to anything.Bailey was such a great main character. It was interesting following the story through her footsteps. I really liked being able to see into her head whenever she was having dreams, because her dreams tended to be real. It's also pretty visible that something is quite different about her other than the other girls.Zo was really cool. I liked how she was a tomboy and was jealous of other's powers. She didn't want to be able to see the future. I'm not sure if I would want to either; whenever she was seeing the future she seemed to be filled with pain.Delia was the fashion star of the group. She was always worried about fashion labels and what others were wearing. You can probably imagine her excitement when she found that she could transmogrify a piece of garbage into a new Gucci.Annabelle was my favorite character. She was usually very quiet, though her power really suited her. She could talk to others through her brain, read others minds, and she could also tell people to do something and they'd actually do it. It kind of reminded me of The Vampire Diaries, in a way.Tattoo was such an interesting book. It was better than I thought it would be. I think that the entire story line and the mystical powers of the tattoos really intrigued me. I also didn't expect that there would be any other creatures involved, though faeries were just thrown in there and they ended up making up a big part of the story line. The only thing that kind of bothered me was the final fight. The buildup to it got me really excited and I just couldn't wait for it. I was expecting some huge showdown that would last a while, though it ended up lasting only like three pages. I ended up having to flip back to make sure that it actually already happened. I'd definitely suggest giving this novel a try!
